The Wainscott Residence came directly from the desire for a home that is open and transparent. Strategically placed glazing allows controlled views outward, constantly provided while mingling from room to room. Large panels of glazing blur the boundary between inside and outside, welcoming nature inward. In conjunction with this theme of openness and transparency was an opportunity to blend the exterior materials with the interior materials and allow for them to pass through from the exterior to the interior. The homes footprint is based on the conservation of the large trees surrounding the site. By weaving through the site, the home blends in with the environment and remains hidden from view from the street, as the clients were conscientious of the size and style of the existing homes to the left and right of the site.
