Nestled in a canopy of trees, Campion overlooks a tranquil, grassy flood plain. This studio is an artist sanctuary, sited to capture natural light from clerestory windows on the primary facades.
The southern end of the structure is grounded with cast-in-place concrete, while the northern end touches the ground lightly with steel columns on concrete piers. From within the volume, one experiences the cadence of skylights running along the spine of the structure. This leads to the "opening" at the end of the tube, connecting the interior with the surrounding environs. The open linear plan maximizes flexibility for the variety of mediums employed by the artist. This tube is punctured only with a cantilevered balcony overlooking Lasater Lake and a private entrance to the existing residence.
